High-added-value biomass-derived composites by chemically coupling post-consumer plastics with agricultural and forestry wastes

Currently, the ever-increasing post-consumer polypropylene (PP) plastics and agricultural forestry wastes that are relatively difficult to be degraded have led serious resource waste environmental pollution. To achieve rational utilization of resources meanwhile reduce potential influences on ecological environment, in this study, high-added-value biomass-derived composites were produced by chemically coupling with (e.g. pine nutshell corn straw) presence interfacial compatibilizers. In terms chemical composition, as-proposed compatibilizer contains CC bonds NCO group, which can effectively enhance compatibility mechanical stability hydroxyl-rich biomass plastics. Experimental results conclude highest tensile strength nutshell/PP composite is 25.44 MPa flexural 47.84 assistance 5.0 wt% compatibilizer. If straw used as raw materials, straw/PP 42.94 22.60 under same experimental conditions. Besides improved properties, thermal water retardation capacity biomass-waste/PP enhanced addition confirmed gravimetric analysis absorption measurements. This conversion into environmentally benign materials favorable promote recycling economy recyclable these harmful environment.
